Google Business Email Cost: Startup & Ongoing Costs

Updated  2 sources

Business email price per user

$7/mo

Google does not sell business email as a standalone product. A custom address such as [email protected] comes through Google Workspace, which bundles Gmail on your own domain with Drive, Meet, Calendar, and shared documents. You pay per user, and the plan you choose sets storage, meeting size, and security controls.

Every price below is per user and excludes tax. Google's pricing page shows local currency, and a visitor outside the United States can see a different currency than the dollar amounts here. The yearly commitment prices come from an archived copy of Google's pricing page dated September 1, 2026, which was read on Oct 14, 2026. Monthly flexible prices come from Cloudwards, since the archived page lists the annual rate by default.

How much does Google business email cost per user?

With a one year commitment, billed monthly, Business Starter costs $7/mo, Business Standard costs $14/mo, and Business Plus costs $22/mo.

Starter is enough for most small teams that only need professional email, calendar, and basic file sharing. Standard adds more storage and larger meetings. Plus adds more security and management controls. Enterprise plans are quoted by Google's sales team, so there is no public price for them.

Flexible monthly plans cost more

If you do not want to commit for a year, Google also offers flexible plans that you can change or stop. Those cost more for the same features. Business Starter on a flexible plan is $8.40/mo, Standard is $16.80/mo, and Plus is $26.40/mo.

Compare each flexible price with its yearly commitment price. The yearly commitment is cheaper on every plan, so the flexible option mainly makes sense for a short project, a seasonal team, or a company that is not sure how many people it will need.

Is there a first months discount?

Google has run limited time offers for new customers. At the time of the archived page, Business Starter showed a promotional rate of $3.50/mo for the first months before returning to the regular price. Promotions are temporary and may only apply to a limited number of users, so treat the regular price as the number to budget around.

What else do you need to budget for?

Google Workspace covers email, but a few other items can affect the total.

  • A domain name. You need to own a domain to use custom addresses. The cost of registering and renewing one depends on the registrar and the extension.
  • Extra users. Each mailbox is a paid user, including shared team members who need their own inbox.
  • Extra storage. Plans include pooled storage per user, and more can be purchased.
  • Support upgrades. Google offers paid support tiers above the standard level.
  • Migration. If you are moving mail from another provider, you may spend time or money on the transfer.

Aliases and groups let several addresses point to one mailbox, which can keep the user count lower for roles like info@ or sales@.

Which plan should you pick?

Start with Business Starter if your needs are email, calendar, and Drive. Move up when you hit storage limits, need bigger video meetings, or want stronger security and device management. Because you can add users and change plans later, there is little reason to buy more than you need at the start.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Google business email address?

Each user on Business Starter costs $7/mo with a yearly commitment, or $8.40/mo on a flexible plan.

Is Gmail for business free?

A custom domain email address requires a paid Google Workspace plan. A regular @gmail.com address is free, but it is not a business address on your own domain.

Do I have to commit for a year?

No. Flexible plans exist without a commitment, but they cost more per user than the yearly commitment price.

Does the price include a domain name?

Check at signup. The plan price is per user, and the cost of a domain name is separate if you do not already own one.

Does Google Workspace price vary by country?

Yes. Google shows prices in local currency, so the dollar amounts here apply to the United States.

Confirm the current price on Google's official pricing page before you sign up.
