Quartz Countertops Cost Calculator & Price Guide

Updated  2 sources

Typical installed cost

$2,600 – $4,400

Quartz countertops are engineered stone. Manufacturers grind natural quartz and bind it with resin and pigments, then press it into slabs. Because the slab is made in a factory, color and pattern are consistent, and the price depends more on brand, design, and thickness than on what a quarry happened to produce.

What you pay for a finished kitchen comes down to three things: how many square feet of counter you need, which quality tier the slab falls in, and how much cutting and edge work the fabricator has to do. The tables below split the cost along those lines so you can build your own estimate.

Quartz Countertops Cost Calculator by Kitchen Size

The quickest way to estimate is to start from the size of your kitchen. Slabwise groups kitchens by how much counter surface they have, and whether an island is part of the job.

Quartz cost by kitchen size

Item Typical range Relative price range
Small kitchen, no island (20-25 sq ft) $1,500 – $3,500
Average kitchen, no island (30-40 sq ft) $2,500 – $5,500
Large kitchen with island (55-75 sq ft) $5,000 – $12,000

To find your own square footage, measure each counter run along the wall in inches, multiply length by depth, and divide by 144. Standard base cabinets give a counter depth of about 25 inches including the overhang. Add an island and any backsplash you want in quartz as separate pieces, then total them.

An island changes the math quickly. It is usually one large piece, often with an overhang for seating, and it can push a kitchen into the next size tier even when the wall counters are short.

Quartz Countertop Cost per Square Foot

Per-square-foot prices make it easier to compare quotes, but sources quote them differently. Some list the slab tier only, while others give a fully installed rate.

By quality tier

Fixr sorts quartz into three tiers. Builder-grade slabs come in plain colors and simple speckled patterns. Mid-grade covers most of the popular designer lines, including many marble-look patterns. Premier quartz includes thick slabs, bold veining that runs through the whole piece, and limited collections from the best-known brands.

Quartz countertop cost by quality (per sq ft)

Item Typical range Relative price range
Builder-grade quartz $50 – $75/sq ft
Mid-grade quartz $75 – $125/sq ft
Premier quartz $125 – $200/sq ft

Installed rates

Slabwise reports a wide installed range of $50 – $150/sq ft, but says most homeowners land between $70 – $100/sq ft. That narrower band is a sensible starting point if you plan on a mid-range color and a standard edge.

Installed, full range $50 – $150/sq ft
Installed, most homeowners $70 – $100/sq ft

Quartz Countertop Installation Cost

Installation starts well before the crew arrives. The fabricator templates your counters, cuts and polishes the pieces in the shop, and then a crew delivers, levels, seams, and secures them. Sink and faucet holes are cut before delivery.

Labor cost per square foot

Item Typical range Relative price range
Installation labor, typical $10 – $35/sq ft
Fabrication and installation labor $30 – $50/sq ft

Sources: Fixr: Quartz countertop cost; Slabwise: Quartz countertop cost per square foot

The two labor figures cover different scopes. Fixr lists installation labor on its own at $10 – $35/sq ft. Slabwise combines fabrication with installation, which may explain why its range of $30 – $50/sq ft starts higher. When you compare quotes, ask whether the labor line includes templating and shop fabrication or only the site visit.

Cutouts and edges

Every sink, cooktop, or faucet hole is a separate cut. An undermount sink also needs a polished edge around the opening.

Cutouts

Item Typical range
Sink or cooktop cutout $100 – $350 each

Edge profiles are priced by the linear foot of exposed edge, not by area. A simple eased edge is usually included. Rounded and decorative profiles cost extra, and an ogee edge takes the most shaping.

Edge upgrades (per linear ft)

Item Typical range Relative price range
Half bullnose edge (per linear ft) $10 – $30/linear ft
Ogee edge (per linear ft) $30 – $60/linear ft

Why Quartz Prices Vary Between Sources

The two sources below describe similar kitchens and still give different totals.

Estimates by source

Item Typical range Average Relative price range
Fixr $2,600 – $4,400$3,500
Slabwise $2,500 – $5,500—

Sources: Fixr: Quartz countertop cost; Slabwise: Quartz countertop cost per square foot

Fixr gives a single typical kitchen range with a midpoint, while Slabwise shows an average kitchen without an island. The gap may come from the counter area each one assumes, the quality tier built into the average, and whether removal of old counters and fabrication are counted. Regional labor rates may also play a part, since fabrication shops in high-cost metro areas tend to charge more for the same slab.

Other Costs to Plan For

Several charges can appear on a quote beyond the slab and the cutting:

  • Removal and disposal of existing countertops
  • Plumbing disconnection and reconnection for the sink and dishwasher
  • A new sink or faucet, if you are replacing them at the same time
  • Backsplash in quartz or tile
  • Extra seams or support brackets for long runs and large overhangs

Ask for each of these as its own line so you can compare one fabricator with another.

Is Quartz a DIY Project?

Quartz slabs are heavy and break if handled badly, and cutting them takes wet saws and shop equipment. Cutting engineered stone also creates fine silica dust, which OSHA treats as a serious respiratory hazard. For most homeowners, the practical role in a quartz project is measuring for a budget estimate and preparing the cabinets, then leaving fabrication and installation to a professional shop.

Before installation day, confirm that your base cabinets are level and solid. Fabricators often will not install on cabinets that rock or sag, and fixing them on the day can add cost.

Frequently asked questions

How much do quartz countertops cost for an average kitchen?

Slabwise puts an average kitchen without an island at $2,500 – $5,500. Fixr reports a typical installed range of $2,600 – $4,400.

What is the cost of quartz countertops per square foot?

Most homeowners pay $70 – $100/sq ft installed, according to Slabwise. Builder-grade slabs start lower, and premier quartz runs up to $200/sq ft.

How much does it cost to install quartz countertops?

Labor alone runs $10 – $35/sq ft according to Fixr. When fabrication is included, Slabwise reports $30 – $50/sq ft.

Do cutouts cost extra?

Usually, yes. A sink or cooktop cutout costs $100 – $350 each, based on Slabwise. Some fabricators include one sink cutout in the base price, so check the quote.

Does quartz need sealing?

No. Quartz is engineered to be nonporous, so it does not need the periodic sealing that natural stone does. The resin can discolor from high heat, so use trivets under hot pans.
