Birkin Bag Price: Retail & Resale Prices

Updated  3 sources

Typical boutique price

$13,500 – $20,300

Hermès sells the Birkin through its own boutiques and does not post prices online, so the numbers people quote come from reports, buyer accounts, and resale platforms. Any Birkin price you read is a reported figure at a point in time, which you cannot check against a list on the brand's website.

Three separate markets are at work. Retail is what a customer pays at a Hermès boutique, when the bag is offered. Resale is what a pre-owned bag sells for through a dealer or marketplace. Auction results are single sales and cannot stand in for a typical price. This guide keeps the three apart.

Birkin Retail Price by Size

Size and leather set the boutique price. Togo is a pebbled calfskin leather and the reference point for most published retail figures, so the table below uses it for the four common sizes. The number in the name is the width in centimeters.

Retail price by size (Togo leather)

Item Price
Birkin 25 Togo $13,500
Birkin 30 Togo $14,900
Birkin 35 Togo $16,300
Birkin 40 Togo $20,300

Source: PurseBop: Hermès Birkin price guide 2026

The Birkin 25 is the smallest of these and the Birkin 40 the largest. The figures come from PurseBop's 2026 price guide, and the span in the answer above also appears in a Sotheby's report on the 2026 increase. Retail prices are subject to change, and they differ from the amount you would pay if you buy a bag through a reseller.

Retail Price by Leather

The same size costs different amounts in different materials. The next table holds the size constant at the Birkin 25 and varies the leather.

Retail price by leather (Birkin 25)

Item Price
Birkin 25 Chèvre $14,500
Birkin 25 Barenia Faubourg $15,100
Birkin 25 Cargo $21,000
Birkin 25 Picnic $28,900

Chèvre and Barenia Faubourg sit just above Togo for the Birkin 25. Cargo and Picnic are priced higher, and the Picnic is the most expensive row. Hardware color, special orders, and exotic skins such as crocodile or ostrich sit outside these tables and are priced on a different scale. Hermès does not publish those, so ask a boutique directly.

Birkin Price History

Hermès has raised Birkin prices repeatedly. The table shows the U.S. price of a Birkin 25 in Togo at several points, as reported by Sotheby's.

Price history (Birkin 25 Togo, U.S.)

Item Price
Birkin 25 Togo, 2016 $9,400
Birkin 25 Togo, 2024 $11,400
Birkin 25 Togo, early 2025 $12,100
Birkin 25 Togo, May 2025 $12,700

The same size rose between 2016 and early 2025, then rose again in May 2025. Compare these with the current Birkin 25 Togo figure in the table above to see the total change. Past increases do not predict future ones, and this guide does not suggest the bag will keep rising.

Birkin Resale and Auction Prices

Many buyers go to the resale market because boutiques decide who is offered a bag and when. Resale prices can be higher than retail, since the buyer pays for immediate access, and condition, leather, color, and hardware all matter.

Resale and auction

Item Typical range Price Relative price range
Birkin 30 Togo, average Sotheby's resale price (2025) —$22,300
Pristine Birkin 25 and 30, Sotheby's marketplace $28,000 – $30,000—
Le Birkin Voyageur, Sotheby's Abu Dhabi (Dec 2025) —$2,900,000
Jane Birkin's original Birkin, Sotheby's Paris (Jul 2025) —$10,100,000

Two notes on these rows:

  • Resale rows: are averages or ranges from Sotheby's. The Birkin 30 Togo number is an average of 2025 resale prices, and the pristine Birkin 25 and 30 range is for bags listed on the Sotheby's marketplace in excellent condition.
  • Auction rows: are one-off sales. Le Birkin Voyageur sold at Sotheby's Abu Dhabi in December 2025. Jane Birkin's original Birkin sold at Sotheby's Paris in July 2025. Each is a single lot with its own history. Neither tells you what a typical Birkin costs.

The resale average sits well above the retail price of the same size, which reflects the gap between boutique availability and market demand. A bag priced above retail on the resale market buys the buyer immediate access, and nothing in these figures says what it will sell for later.

Why Birkin Prices Vary

  • Size: A larger bag uses more leather and costs more.
  • Leather: Togo, Chèvre, Barenia Faubourg, and other skins carry different prices.
  • Condition: Pre-owned bags are priced by wear, with pristine examples at the top.
  • Source: Boutique, dealer, and auction prices answer different questions.
  • Date: Prices are adjusted by Hermès, so a figure from a few months ago may be out of date.

How to Buy a Birkin Safely

Counterfeits of the Birkin are common. Buying from the boutique avoids the risk, and when buying resale, use a seller that authenticates bags and offers a written guarantee. Ask for the bag's blind stamp details, receipts, and any original packaging, and compare the listed price with recent sales for the same size, leather, and condition.

Questions to Ask a Reseller

  • Is the bag authenticated, and by whom?
  • What are the size, leather, color, and hardware, stated exactly?
  • What condition grade does the seller use, and are close-up photos available?
  • Is there a return window if the bag does not match the listing?
  • Does the price include tax, shipping, and insurance?
