Office 365 Price: Plans, Monthly Cost & Price History
Starting price
$9.99/mo
The entry plan for Word, Excel, and the other Office apps, Microsoft 365 Personal, costs $9.99/mo on monthly billing, according to Microsoft.
Microsoft stopped selling subscriptions under the Office 365 name and now sells the same idea as Microsoft 365. When people search for Office 365 pricing, they are usually looking for the cost of a personal or family plan that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus cloud storage and a few extras. The plan you pick sets the price, and so does whether you pay monthly or yearly.
This page lists the individual and family plans. Business, school, and enterprise subscriptions are priced per user under separate terms. Prices were published by Microsoft and checked on Oct 13, 2026. Microsoft revises these plans fairly often, so confirm the amount on its site before you pay.
Microsoft 365 monthly prices
Microsoft's page shows four monthly options. They step up from a single-person plan to a household plan, then to two plans pitched at heavier AI and productivity use.
Monthly plans
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Personal | $9.99/mo |
| Microsoft 365 Family | $12.99/mo |
| Microsoft 365 Premium | $19.99/mo |
| Microsoft 365 Pro | $99.99/mo |
Personal is the plan for one person and costs $9.99/mo. Family costs $12.99/mo and is built for sharing a subscription across a household. Premium, at $19.99/mo, adds more AI usage on top of the core apps, and Pro, at $99.99/mo, is the top individual tier with the highest usage limits and monthly billing only.
For most people who just want the Office apps, the question is Personal or Family. If two or more people would otherwise buy separate Personal subscriptions, the Family plan usually deserves a look, because it spreads one price across several users. Check Microsoft's current limit on how many people it covers.
Microsoft 365 annual prices
Paying by the year is the second way to buy. Microsoft lists annual prices for Personal, Family, and Premium.
Annual plans
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Personal | $99.99/yr |
| Microsoft 365 Family | $129.99/yr |
| Microsoft 365 Premium | $199.99/yr |
The yearly price of Personal is $99.99/yr, Family is $129.99/yr, and Premium is $199.99/yr. Pro does not have an annual line on the page. You can work out the saving yourself by dividing each yearly price by twelve and comparing it with the monthly figure. Annual billing lowers the effective monthly cost but charges everything at once.
What else changes the price?
- Sales tax: added at checkout in many states.
- Promotions: introductory offers, trial periods, and student or education discounts can lower the first payment without changing the list price.
- Where you buy: Microsoft's own store, a retailer, or a carrier may bill differently.
- Country: Microsoft shows local pricing in local currency, so a page opened outside the United States can show different amounts than those above.
Renewals and cancellation
Microsoft 365 subscriptions renew automatically unless you turn off recurring billing. You manage a plan from the services and subscriptions page in your Microsoft account, where you can switch between monthly and annual, change plans, or cancel. After cancelling, you normally keep access until the paid period ends. Check what happens to your cloud files and desktop app access when a plan ends, and download anything you need first.
