Power Bi Price: Plans, Monthly Cost & Price History
Power BI Pro per user, paid yearly
$14/mo
Power BI Pro costs $14/mo per user when paid yearly, and Premium Per User costs $24/mo per user, according to Microsoft.
Power BI is Microsoft's business intelligence tool for building reports and dashboards from company data. You can connect it to spreadsheets, databases, and cloud services, then share interactive reports with colleagues. Microsoft licenses it per user, with a free desktop app for building reports and paid licenses for sharing and collaboration.
Current prices on this page come from Microsoft's official Power BI pricing page, published by Microsoft and checked on Oct 11, 2026. Earlier prices were reported by The Register. Microsoft adjusts its licensing from time to time, so confirm current rates on the official Power BI pricing page before you buy.

Power BI Desktop (free)
Power BI Desktop is a free Windows app. You can connect to data, clean it, and build full reports on your own computer without paying. The limit is sharing: publishing reports for others to view and collaborate on in the Power BI service requires a paid license.
Power BI Pro
Power BI Pro costs $14/mo per user. It lets you publish reports to the Power BI service, share them with colleagues, collaborate in workspaces, and schedule data refreshes. In most organizations, both the people who publish reports and the people who view shared reports need a Pro license.
Premium Per User
Premium Per User (PPU) costs $24/mo per user. It includes everything in Pro and adds features that used to require a dedicated capacity: larger data models, more frequent refreshes, paginated reports, and advanced AI and data preparation tools. It suits analysts who work with large datasets or need those advanced features without buying capacity for the whole organization.
Power BI Price Increase in April 2025
Microsoft raised both per-user licenses in April 2025.
Price history
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Power BI Pro before April 2025 increase | $10/mo |
| Premium Per User before April 2025 increase | $20/mo |
Power BI Pro went from $10/mo to $14/mo per user, and Premium Per User went from $20/mo to $24/mo per user. Customers on existing agreements typically moved to the new price at renewal, so the timing varied by contract.
Licensing Costs to Understand
The per-user price is only part of what Power BI costs an organization.
- Viewers need licenses too. Unless reports sit in a large enough Microsoft Fabric capacity, everyone who views shared content generally needs a Pro or PPU license, not just the people who build reports.
- Microsoft 365 bundles. Some Microsoft 365 enterprise plans include Power BI Pro. If your company already pays for one of them, you may not need to buy Pro separately.
- Fabric capacity. Larger organizations can buy Microsoft Fabric capacity, which lets many users view content without individual licenses. Capacity is priced separately and is not part of our data.
- Monthly billing and resellers. Prices here assume a yearly commitment. Paying month to month or buying through a Microsoft partner may change the price.
- Taxes. Sales tax may be added depending on your state.
Which Power BI License Do You Need?
- Free Desktop: you build reports for yourself and do not need to share them online.
- Pro: you share reports with colleagues and your datasets are of normal size.
- Premium Per User: you need large models, frequent refreshes, or paginated reports for a group of analysts.
- Fabric capacity: many people in your organization need to view reports, and licensing each viewer would cost more than capacity.
Microsoft offers a free trial of Pro and PPU for new users. Check the official page for current trial terms before you start.
