Stripe Price: Plans, Monthly Cost & Price History
Standard card rate
2.9%
Stripe charges 2.9% on domestic online card payments, plus a fixed fee on each transaction.
Stripe has no monthly fee on its standard payments plan. You pay per transaction instead, and each payment method has its own rate. Most small businesses care about three things: the percentage on a normal card payment, the fixed fee added to each one, and the extras that apply to international cards, currency conversion or manually keyed payments.
The percentage rates come from the pricing pages published by Stripe, checked on Oct 14, 2026. The fixed per-transaction fees come from a NerdWallet review, published by NerdWallet and checked on Oct 14, 2026, because Stripe's page shows them in cents. Stripe changes rates and offers custom pricing for large volumes, so confirm the current terms on Stripe's official site.

Surcharges add to the base rate. Manually entered cards add 0.5%, international cards add 1.5%, and a payment that needs currency conversion adds 1%. In-person card payments through Stripe Terminal are listed at 2.7%. Klarna is higher at 5.99%. ACH Direct Debit is 0.8%, and the label notes a cap on the fee. Instant Payouts cost 1.5% of the payout volume.
Stripe also sells products on top of payments. The pay-as-you-go rate for Stripe Billing is 0.7%, and Stripe Invoicing Starter is 0.4% per paid invoice. Those apply only if you use those products.
What is Stripe's fixed fee per transaction?
On top of the percentage, Stripe adds a fixed amount to each card payment.
Fixed fees per transaction
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Online card payments, fixed fee per transaction | $0.30 |
| In-person card payments (Terminal), fixed fee per transaction | $0.05 |

Online card payments carry $0.30 per transaction, and in-person Terminal payments carry $0.05. Because the fixed fee applies to every payment, it matters most when your average sale is small. This page does not work out a cost for any example sale. Plug your own average order into the rates above.
Other Stripe fees to know about
A dispute, also called a chargeback, carries its own charge. Stripe lists a dispute received fee of $15 for each dispute you receive. In rare cases network fees also apply, according to Stripe. Keeping disputes low is one of the simplest ways to avoid this cost.
What affects how much you pay
- Card origin. International cards add a surcharge to the base rate.
- Currency. Conversion adds another percentage.
- How the card is taken. Typing in a card number by hand costs more than a standard online checkout.
- Payment method. Bank debits, buy now pay later and cards are priced differently.
- Volume. Stripe offers custom packages for businesses with large volume.
- Add-on products. Billing, Invoicing and other tools carry their own fees.
Is Stripe cheap?
Stripe's advantage is the lack of a monthly fee and setup charge, which suits a new business. Costs rise with sales, so a high-volume seller should compare Stripe's custom pricing and other processors. Compare the all-in cost on your real mix of domestic cards, international cards and payment methods rather than only the headline rate.
Tips for keeping costs down
Offer a payment method with a lower percentage where it suits your customers. Avoid hand-keying card details when a standard checkout works. Watch your dispute rate. Ask Stripe about custom pricing once your volume grows. Keep a record of which payment methods your customers actually use, because that mix decides your effective rate far more than the headline number does. Review that mix every few months and adjust your checkout options if a cheaper method suits your buyers.
