Electric Scooter Price: Retail, Deals & Price History

Updated  3 sources

Adult e-scooter price

$300 – $600

Electric scooters are priced mainly by motor power, battery size, tires and suspension. A small folding scooter for short, flat trips costs far less than a heavy scooter built for hills, long range and speed. Brand and warranty also matter, since a few companies charge more for support and build quality.

The tiers and models below come from Tom's Guide's scooter buying guide, updated in July 2026, and from Electrek's reviews. Scooters are often discounted, so list prices are a starting point.

Electric scooter price tiers

Tom's Guide describes four tiers.

Source: Tom's Guide: Best electric scooters

The entry tier runs $100 – $200 and is where most kids' scooters sit, and the guide suggests adults look higher. The budget tier for adults is $300 – $400, with the basics and weak hill performance. The mid-range tier runs $400 – $600 and has bigger wheels, longer range and fast charging. Premium scooters start at $600, with more comfort, faster speeds, disc brakes and better suspension.

The NIU KQi 100P is $349, and the Segway E3 Pro is $699. Further up, the Segway ZT3 Pro is $1,049, the Segway Ninebot Max G3 is $1,499, and the Navee UT5 Ultra X is $2,499.

Electrek lists the Bo M1 at $1,990 and the Bo M2 at $2,490. The HMP Lightning MK.II, which Electrek describes as a street-legal commuter, is $3,999.

What you get for more money

  • Range: Bigger batteries give longer trips, and the Tom's Guide table pairs higher prices with longer rated ranges.
  • Speed: The most expensive scooters list higher top speeds.
  • Ride quality: Larger tires and suspension smooth rough pavement.
  • Weight: Higher-end scooters can be much heavier, which matters if you carry yours up stairs.
  • Features: Turn signals, app connections and brake upgrades appear on pricier models.

Light and portable versus fast and heavy

Price often tracks weight. A scooter priced in the budget tier is easier to carry, but it gives up range and hill power. The Navee UT5 Ultra X sits at the top of Tom's Guide's table, and the reviewer calls it both heavy and pricey. If you will lift the scooter onto a train or into an apartment, test the weight before you buy. If you ride from door to door, a heavier scooter with a bigger battery may suit you, but it will cost more.

Other costs

Plan for a helmet, a lock and possibly a rear light. Replacement tires and brake parts are routine costs for scooters that are ridden daily. Some companies sell rental or subscription plans instead of a purchase, as Unagi does for its Model One, so check whether a plan fits you better.

Rules for riding a scooter

Local rules differ on where scooters may be ridden, whether they are allowed on sidewalks or bike lanes, and any helmet or age rules. Check your city and state requirements before you buy, particularly for faster scooters, since the rules can differ with speed.

How to choose a price tier

Estimate your trip length and the hills on your route. For short, flat trips, the budget tier may be enough. For a daily commute with hills, the mid-range or premium tiers fit better. Weigh the scooter, because a heavy model is harder to carry on public transit. Compare the warranty, since a cheap scooter can cost more if parts are hard to replace.
