SGC Grading Price Guide: Current Values & Sales
Standard fee per card
$50
SGC's Standard grading service costs $50 per card for cards declared at up to the lowest value band, according to BroBible. Expedited service and higher declared values cost more.
SGC grades sports cards and trading card game cards and returns them in a black holder. It became popular with collectors who wanted a low entry price without a membership or a minimum order. That changed in September 2026, when SGC overhauled its schedule, and many articles still circulating describe the old prices.
Two choices set what you pay: the service speed and the declared value of each card. Declared value is the amount you tell SGC the card is worth when you submit it. SGC places the card in a price band based on that figure, so a card declared above a band's ceiling has to move up to the next, more expensive band.

SGC grading cost by service
The table lists the Standard and Expedited bands as published in recent guides. Standard is the slower service. Expedited is built for quick turnaround, and its price rises sharply with each higher declared-value band. The figures come from independent guides that copy SGC's schedule, because SGC's own pricing page could not be read automatically. Treat the table as a reference and compare it with the live order form before you submit.
Standard has two bands in the table. The first covers cards declared up to the lowest ceiling. The second covers cards declared higher than that but still under the next ceiling, and it costs more per card. Expedited has several bands that step up as declared value grows. Beyond the top band shown here, SGC charges a base fee plus an extra amount for each additional block of declared value, so the fee keeps climbing for very valuable cards.
What changed in September 2026
SGC raised its entry Standard price on September 2, 2026. The company said rapid growth in demand and longer turnaround times were behind the change, and it warned that more adjustments could follow later in the year or in early 2027.

The jump matters most for cheap modern cards. A fee that once made sense for a very cheap card may now cost more than the card is worth even after a perfect grade. Collectors with large batches of low-value cards often move them to a cheaper grader or skip grading.
Extra costs besides the grading fee
The fee in the table is only the grading line item. Return shipping is billed on top, and the cheapest option for one to five standard-size cards is $15. Expect higher return charges for faster carriers or larger declared values.
Other costs sit outside SGC's fee table:
- Postage and insurance to get the cards to SGC
- Sleeves and semi-rigid holders for the trip
- Extra fees for research, custom holder work or oversized cards, which SGC's terms allow
- A higher band charge if SGC decides the declared value was too low
SGC's terms also say that cards judged altered or counterfeit are not encapsulated, but the grading fee still applies. That makes a quick check of the card's authenticity worth doing before you pay.
How different guides price SGC
Three guides quote the same entry price, which is not surprising since they all report the same schedule.

Where guides disagree is in the tier below. Articles published before the change still show the old entry price, and some tables mix old and new figures. When you see two numbers for the same SGC tier, the date of the article usually explains the gap.
Is SGC still the cheap option?
It depends on what you compare it with. At the entry level, SGC now sits closer to the other major graders than it did before the increase, so the old argument that SGC was clearly cheapest is weaker. Its advantages are the absence of a membership requirement and a published fast service. For vintage sports cards, many buyers also like the black holder and SGC's reputation in that segment.
Before you choose, price the same card at two or three graders, include shipping, and look at recent sold listings for cards in the holder you plan to use. A grade that adds little resale value does not justify a high fee.
Frequently asked questions
How much does SGC grading cost?
Standard starts at the entry price in the table for cards declared up to the lowest band, and rises for higher declared values. Expedited costs more at every band. Confirm the current schedule on SGC's order form.
Did SGC raise its prices?
Yes. SGC raised its entry Standard fee on September 2, 2026, and the before and after figures are in the comparison table above.
Does SGC charge for return shipping?
Yes. Return shipping is billed separately, and the lowest option is shown in the shipping paragraph above.
Do I need a membership to submit cards to SGC?
Guides describing the new schedule say no paid membership or minimum card count is required. Check the order form to be sure.
What happens if I declare the wrong value?
SGC's terms let it raise the fee when the declared value does not match fair market value, so declare the amount honestly.
