Venmo Cost: Current Prices & Fees

Updated  1 source

Venmo Instant Transfer fee

1.75%

Venmo is free for most everyday uses, such as splitting a bill with a friend. Fees show up when you want money faster, pay with a credit card, sell goods or services, or use a business profile. Knowing where each fee applies helps you avoid paying for something you could do at no cost.

Every fee on this page comes from Venmo's official fee page, checked on Oct 11, 2026. Venmo can change fees, so check its fee page before a large transaction. This page describes fees only and is not financial advice.

Venmo Fees at a Glance

Here is what Venmo lists for moving money between your account, your bank and other people.

Sending and receiving

Item Price
Standard transfer to bank $0
Add money from linked bank $0
Receive personal payments $0

Source: Venmo: Our fees

Sending money from your Venmo balance, linked bank account or debit card to another person is free, and so is receiving personal payments. The simplest way to avoid fees is to fund payments from a bank account or balance and wait for a standard transfer to reach your bank.

Instant Transfer Fee

Instant Transfer moves money from your Venmo balance to a debit card or bank account in minutes rather than waiting for standard timing. The fee is a percentage of the transfer, with limits on both ends.

Fee limits

Item Price
Instant Transfer minimum fee $0.25
Instant Transfer maximum fee $25

On a small transfer, the minimum fee applies, and on a very large one, the fee stops at the cap. If you do not need the money right away, a standard transfer is free and usually only takes a short while longer.

Percentage Fees: Credit Cards, Sellers and Businesses

Some transactions carry a percentage fee instead of a flat one.

Percentage fees

Item Price
Send using a credit card 3%
Receive goods and services payments (personal profile) 2.99%
Business profile payments (plus $0.10 per payment) 1.9%
Business profile Tap to Pay payments (plus $0.09 per payment) 2.29%
Send to non-U.S. PayPal account 5%

  • Paying with a credit card: adds a fee to the sender. Using a debit card, bank account or Venmo balance avoids it.
  • Receiving goods and services payments: on a personal profile carries a seller fee. This applies when someone pays you for an item or service and marks the payment that way.
  • Business profiles: pay a lower percentage plus a small fixed amount per payment. Tap to Pay on a business profile has its own rate and fixed amount, both shown in the table.
  • Sending to a non-U.S. PayPal account: carries a higher percentage fee.

Flat Fees

Adding cash at stores with a Venmo Debit Card carries a flat fee per deposit. If you get paid by direct deposit or transfer from a bank, you may not need cash deposits at all.

Personal Payments vs. Goods and Services

The fee you pay depends on how the payment is labeled. Paying a friend back for dinner counts as a personal payment and is free. Buying from a stranger or paying for a service is a goods and services payment, and the seller pays the seller fee. Venmo's rules say personal payments should be used only for friends and family, so label business payments correctly. Selling through a personal profile and avoiding the fee by calling payments personal may breach Venmo's terms.

Sellers who accept payments regularly may do better with a business profile, which has a different rate structure. Compare the percentages and fixed amounts in the table with how much you sell before switching.

How to Avoid Venmo Fees

  1. Use a bank account or Venmo balance: to send money instead of a credit card.
  2. Choose standard transfer: when you can wait for funds to reach your bank.
  3. Label payments correctly: so you are not caught off guard by seller fees later.
  4. Skip store cash deposits: when you can add money from a linked bank.
  5. Check your payment source: before each transaction, since the default source can change.
