Apple Music Price: Plans, Monthly Cost & Price History

Apple Music is Apple's music streaming service. It works on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV, and also has apps for Android and the web. A subscription gives you the full catalog without ads, offline downloads, lossless audio, and Spatial Audio on supported tracks. There is no free, ad-supported tier, so the plan you choose sets the cost.

Apple Music has three main plans: Individual, Family, and Student.

Individual

Individual costs $11.99/mo and covers one person. It is the standard choice if no one else in your household needs a separate account.

Family

Family costs $19.99/mo. According to Apple, it lets you share the subscription with up to five people, and each member gets a personal account with their own library and recommendations. It works through Apple's Family Sharing feature, so one person organizes the group and pays for it.

Student

Student costs $6.99/mo for students enrolled at an eligible college or university. Apple verifies enrollment, and eligibility has to be confirmed again over time. The plan is limited to a certain number of years of membership, so check the terms on Apple's site.

Apple raised Apple Music prices in July 2026, affecting all three main plans. Here are the monthly prices before the change:

Individual went from $10.99/mo to $11.99/mo. Family went from $16.99/mo to $19.99/mo, the largest jump of the three. Student went from $5.99/mo to $6.99/mo.

Existing subscribers usually see the new price at a later renewal date, and Apple sends a notice before the change. You can review your current price and renewal date in the Subscriptions section of your Apple Account settings.

Apple Music is also included in Apple One, Apple's bundle of services that can include Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud+, and other services depending on the tier. Some phone carriers and device purchases include a period of Apple Music at no extra cost. Read the offer terms so you know when regular billing starts.

The price you see may not match your statement. Depending on your state and city, sales tax or local fees may apply to digital subscriptions. Apple bills through the payment method on your Apple Account, and the subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel.

Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music offer large catalogs and similar plan structures, with individual, family, and student options. The practical differences are features and devices. Apple Music includes lossless audio at no extra charge and integrates closely with Apple hardware and Siri. Spotify has a free tier and strong playlist and podcast features. If most of your devices are Apple, Apple Music is usually the smoother fit.
