MacBook Neo price

$699 – $799

Apple sells three MacBook families, and each sits in its own price band. The MacBook Neo is the cheapest, the MacBook Air is the mainstream choice, and the MacBook Pro is the high-performance line. Storage is the usual way to move up within a family.

Apple raised prices on June 25, 2026. Of the figures below, only the entry-level starting prices were confirmed after that increase. Higher configurations are not covered here, so check apple.com for the current price of a specific build.

Is there a cheaper way to buy a MacBook?

Education pricing is the main discount Apple offers directly. Students, teachers, and school staff can buy through the Education Store.

Education pricing

Item Price
MacBook Neo 256GB, Education Store $599

Source: MacRumors: MacBook Neo price increase

The Neo 256GB through the Education Store is $599. Eligibility rules are on Apple's site. Beyond that:

  • Trade-in credit at Apple lowers the cost of a new MacBook if you have an older laptop.
  • Apple's refurbished store sells previous models with a warranty, usually below the new price.
  • Retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and Costco sometimes discount older generations, especially around Black Friday and back to school.

Which MacBook should you buy?

  • MacBook Neo: for browsing, email, school work, and streaming. It is the lowest price Apple offers for a Mac laptop.
  • MacBook Air: for people who want a larger display, more storage at the starting level, and a better balance of price and performance. It suits most office and student use.
  • MacBook Pro: for video editing, software development, and other sustained heavy work. Its starting price is the highest of the three families.

Buy for what you do now. Storage and memory cannot be upgraded after purchase, so choose the configuration you will need for the life of the laptop.

What else adds to the cost?

  • Storage and memory upgrades, which are priced at Apple's configurator.
  • AppleCare, which is optional and priced per model.
  • Adapters and accessories, since newer MacBooks use USB-C and Thunderbolt ports.
  • Sales tax, which depends on your state.

When is the best time to buy a MacBook?

Apple rarely discounts new MacBooks at its own store. Retailer sales on current models are small and short. Larger discounts usually show up on the previous generation after a new model launches.

After a price increase, waiting for a cut is a gamble. If you need a laptop now, buy it. If you can wait, watch for education promotions and retailer sales.
