MacBook Pro Battery Replacement Price: Retail, Deals & Price History

A MacBook Pro battery wears out slowly. You may notice that the laptop needs to be plugged in more often, that the percentage drops quickly, or that macOS reports a battery that needs service. Apple prices this repair up front, which makes it one of the few Mac repairs you can budget for before you book.

The Apple figures below come from Apple Parts, which republishes Apple's US service estimates and states that they took effect on 2 October 2026. They were checked on Oct 13, 2026. The fee depends on the model and screen size. Newer 14-inch models cost the least, and 16-inch models and many older models sit at the top of the range.

A 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip is $229. The 16-inch M5 Pro or M5 Max model is $249. Many earlier models are listed at the same upper figure, including the 14-inch M4 at $249, the 16-inch M3 at $249 and the 13-inch M2 at $249. These are estimates, and they do not include tax.

Independent shops are another option. One US shop publishes prices by screen size and says it uses genuine Apple batteries.

At that shop a 13-inch MacBook Pro runs $129.95 – $229, a 14-inch runs $229 – $269, and a 16-inch runs $249 – $299. The wide ranges reflect different model years. Other shops charge differently, and the quality of the battery and the work varies. Ask where the battery comes from, how long the repair warranty lasts, and whether the shop will give you a written quote.

Two published guides give different totals for the same repair.

ThePricer puts the typical cost at $199 – $249, while the independent shop's range is $129.95 – $299. Several things may explain the gap:

• Who does the work. Apple's fee is flat, while shops set their own prices.
• Model and size. A 13-inch battery is smaller and often cheaper than a 16-inch one.
• Model year. Older models may cost less at an independent shop, since parts are easier to find.
• What is included. Some quotes include the battery and labor, while others may add diagnostics or shipping.

Use the Apple figure as the baseline and compare shop quotes against it.

Sometimes. Apple lists battery service at no additional fee under AppleCare+ when the battery holds less than 80 percent of its original capacity. If you do not have a plan, you pay the fee in the first table. On a Mac, you can check the battery's condition in System Settings under Battery. If the condition shows a need for service, Apple or an authorized provider can confirm it.

• Apple. Fixed price and a defined process. Appointments or mail-in service may take longer.
• Independent shop. Often faster and sometimes cheaper, but the parts and warranty differ from shop to shop.
• DIY. Batteries in recent MacBook Pro models are attached with adhesive and sit under other parts. A mistake can damage the battery or the logic board, so this route suits only experienced repairers.

A swollen battery is a safety issue. If the trackpad lifts, the case bulges or the laptop will not sit flat, stop using it and take it to a repair provider as soon as you can.

Compare the fee against the age and value of the laptop. A fresh battery can extend the life of a MacBook Pro that still runs current macOS and performs well. If the machine is old enough that Apple no longer supports it with updates, or if it has other problems, the money may go further toward a newer laptop.
