Red Dead Redemption 2 Price: Retail, Deals & Price History

Red Dead Redemption 2 is an open-world western from Rockstar Games, and it has been on sale for years across consoles and PC. Because the game is old and heavily discounted, the price you see at checkout is often far from the list price, which makes it easy to compare the wrong numbers.

This page lists regular list prices only. Steam and the PlayStation Store both ran large sales when this guide was put together, so treat the figures below as the full price and check the store for the current offer.

Steam sells a standard version and an Ultimate Edition. The PlayStation Store lists the game for PS4, and it is playable on PS5.

The standard version includes the story mode and Red Dead Online, according to the PlayStation Store listing. The Ultimate Edition adds special and ultimate content on top of that, such as a bank robbery mission and gang hideout, plus a horse, according to the same store.

The Ultimate Edition lists at a different amount on each store. Steam and the PlayStation Store set their own prices, and the PlayStation listing is a PS4 product page. That is a platform difference rather than a sign that one of them is wrong. If you plan to buy the Ultimate Edition, check the price on the platform you will play on.

That depends on how much you value the extras. The standard version already gives you the full story and the online mode. The Ultimate Edition is aimed at players who want the bonus content from the start. Compare the gap between the two prices in the table to decide whether the extras are worth it to you.

Because Red Dead Redemption 2 is an older title, discounts are frequent. On the PlayStation Store, the game was also listed as included with a PlayStation Plus Extra subscription, according to the listing. That is a separate subscription cost and a rotating catalog, so a game can leave the catalog. If you only want to play once, a subscription may or may not cost less than buying the game.

• Steam: For PC players.
• PlayStation Store: For PS4 and PS5 players, where the PS4 version plays on PS5.
• Other platforms: Rockstar's game is also on other stores, whose prices are not covered here.

Online play on PlayStation requires a PlayStation Plus subscription, according to the store listing.

• Sales: Large percentage discounts show up several times a year.
• Edition: Ultimate costs more than the standard version.
• Platform: Steam and PlayStation price separately.
• Region: US pricing applies to US accounts.

Prices on this page come from Steam and PlayStation Store.

A few quick checks save money on a game this old. First, look at the list price and the current price on the store page. When a game is discounted, both are usually shown, which tells you how deep the sale is. Second, check whether you are looking at the standard version or the Ultimate Edition, because the names are close and the prices are far apart. Third, make sure the listing matches your platform. The PlayStation Store page for this game is a PS4 listing, and PS5 owners play it through the console's support for PS4 games.

If you only plan to play the story, the standard version covers it. Red Dead Online is included with the standard version, according to the PlayStation listing, so you do not need the Ultimate Edition just to try the online mode.
