Dash Pass Cost: Membership Prices, Fees & Plans

DashPass is DoorDash's paid membership. It removes delivery fees and lowers service fees on eligible orders from participating restaurants and stores, as long as the order meets a minimum subtotal. You can pay monthly or yearly, and verified college students get a lower price.

A standard DashPass membership costs $9.99/mo on monthly billing. Student DashPass costs $4.99/mo.

The monthly plan suits people who order delivery in some months and not others, since you can cancel when you stop ordering. The monthly price is the same whether you place two orders or twenty, so the value depends on how often you order.

DoorDash also sells DashPass as a yearly plan, paid in one charge. The student plan has a yearly option as well:

The annual plan costs $96/yr, compared with $9.99/mo on monthly billing. Student DashPass costs $48/yr on the annual plan. Yearly billing makes sense if you already order delivery every month and expect to keep doing so. If your ordering is seasonal, the monthly plan avoids paying for months you do not use.

With DashPass, eligible orders above the minimum subtotal get a delivery fee of zero and a reduced service fee. Participating restaurants, grocery stores, and convenience stores carry a DashPass label in the app. DoorDash also offers member-only promotions from time to time.

DashPass does not remove every charge. Orders below the minimum subtotal, restaurants that do not participate, and small-order fees can still add cost. Taxes, tips for your Dasher, and any price differences between the app menu and the in-store menu still apply.

Student DashPass costs $4.99/mo on monthly billing or $48/yr on the annual plan. To qualify, you need to verify your enrollment at an eligible college or university, and DoorDash may ask you to re-verify periodically. The benefits match the standard membership, so if you are a student, this is the cheapest way to get DashPass.

Some credit cards include a complimentary DashPass membership as a card benefit. CNBC Select covers this benefit on certain Chase cards. The length of the free membership, and whether it renews at the paid rate afterward, depend on the card, so check your card's benefit terms before you pay for DashPass separately.

Other partners may bundle DashPass from time to time. If you already pay for a service that includes it, you may be able to activate the membership at no extra cost.

DashPass pays off when the delivery fees you would otherwise pay add up to more than the membership price. Look at your past DoorDash receipts: add up the delivery and service fees from a typical month and compare that total with $9.99/mo. If you order only once in a while, paying the fees per order may cost less.
