Shopify Price: Plans, Monthly Cost & Price History

Shopify is an ecommerce platform for building an online store and selling in person. One subscription covers your storefront, product catalog, checkout, and order management. Shopify sells three main plans for small and growing businesses, and the price of each one depends on whether you pay monthly or for a full year.

On monthly billing, Shopify costs $39/mo for Basic, $105/mo for Grow, and $399/mo for Advanced.

Annual billing lowers the effective monthly price of every plan. You pay for the year up front, and the table below shows what that works out to each month.

Basic drops from $39/mo to $29/mo, Grow from $105/mo to $79/mo, and Advanced from $399/mo to $299/mo.

Basic

Basic is the starting plan for new and small stores. It includes an online store, unlimited products, basic reports, and a limited number of staff accounts. If you are launching your first store or selling a small catalog, Basic usually covers what you need.

Grow

Grow adds more staff accounts, more detailed reports, and lower card processing rates than Basic. It suits a store with steady sales and a few people helping run it. As order volume rises, the lower processing rates can offset part of the higher plan price.

Advanced

Advanced adds the most staff accounts, custom reporting, and the lowest processing rates of the three plans. It is aimed at high-volume stores where small differences in fees add up across many orders. Very large brands can also ask Shopify about Shopify Plus, which is quoted separately.

The plan price is only part of what Shopify costs. When customers pay by card through Shopify Payments, Shopify charges a processing fee on each sale. The rate depends on your plan, and it is lower on Grow and Advanced than on Basic. Online and in-person sales may also carry different rates.

If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify may add its own transaction fee on top of what that provider charges. Our data does not include current card rates, so check them on the official Shopify pricing page and include them in your cost estimate.

If you sell in person, POS Pro costs $89/mo per location on monthly billing. It adds staff permissions, inventory tools, and other retail features to Shopify's point of sale app. Basic point of sale features come with every plan.

Other common costs include:

• Apps: many stores add apps for reviews, email marketing, subscriptions, or shipping. Some are free, and many charge a monthly fee.
• Themes: Shopify offers free themes, and premium themes from the Theme Store carry a one-time price.
• Domain: a custom domain is billed yearly if you buy it through Shopify.
• Shipping labels and hardware: label costs and card readers for in-person sales are separate purchases.
• Sales tax: depending on your state, sales tax may be added to your subscription.

Annual billing is the most direct saving, since every plan costs less per month when paid for a year up front. Shopify also tends to offer new merchants a free trial or a low introductory price for the first months. The terms change, so read the current offer and note when regular pricing begins.

Start on the lowest plan that fits your store today. Upgrading later is simple, and the right time to move to Grow is usually when the lower processing rates would save more than the price difference.
