YouTube Premium Price: Plans, Monthly Cost & Price History

YouTube Premium is the paid version of YouTube. It removes ads from videos, lets you keep playing with the screen off or while using other apps, and allows downloads for offline viewing. It also includes YouTube Music Premium, so you get ad-free music streaming in the same subscription.

YouTube raised Premium prices in the US in April 2026. The figures on this page come from news reports on that change by Ubergizmo and NBC Bay Area, checked on Oct 11, 2026. Prices can change again, and YouTube sometimes tests different prices, so confirm the current rate in the YouTube app or on YouTube's official Premium page before you sign up.

YouTube sells four Premium plans: Individual, Family, Student, and the cheaper Premium Lite.

Premium Individual

Individual costs $15.99/mo and covers one account. It includes ad-free videos, background play, downloads, and YouTube Music Premium.

Premium Family

Family costs $26.99/mo and lets the plan manager share Premium with members of the same household. Each person uses their own Google account, so watch history and recommendations stay separate. Members must live at the same address as the plan manager.

Premium Student

Student costs $8.99/mo for students at eligible higher-education institutions. YouTube verifies enrollment, and you need to confirm eligibility again periodically.

Premium Lite

Premium Lite costs $8.99/mo. It removes ads from most videos but does not include YouTube Music Premium, and some content, such as music videos and Shorts, may still show ads. Lite has also had fewer features than full Premium, so check YouTube's plan comparison for what it currently includes. It suits viewers who mainly want fewer ads on regular videos and do not use YouTube for music.

YouTube offers an annual option for Premium Individual. You pay once for the year instead of every month.

At current prices, the annual plan at $159.99/yr costs less than twelve monthly payments of $15.99/mo. It makes sense if you are sure you will keep Premium all year. Annual billing may not be available in every sign-up path, so check the options in your account.

The April 2026 increase raised prices across the main Premium plans. These are the prices before the change:

Premium Individual went from $13.99/mo to $15.99/mo. Family rose from $22.99/mo to $26.99/mo, the largest increase among the monthly plans. Student went from $7.99/mo to $8.99/mo, and the annual Individual plan rose from $139.99/yr to $159.99/yr. Premium Lite also became more expensive and now costs $8.99/mo.

Existing members usually receive an email notice and move to the new price at a later billing date. If you signed up through a partner, such as a phone carrier, the timing may follow that partner's terms.

The listed price may not be your final charge. Depending on your state and city, sales tax or local fees may apply to digital subscriptions.

Where you subscribe also matters. Signing up through Apple's App Store has historically cost more than signing up on the web or in the Android app, because of App Store fees. If you pay through an iPhone, compare that price with the one shown on youtube.com before you renew.
