Charizard Ex Price Guide: Current Values & Sales
Popular printing, ungraded
$325.88

There is no single price for Charizard ex, because the name covers many different cards. Pokémon has printed Charizard ex in several sets, and each printing has its own card number, rarity, and market. A common holo from one set and a special illustration rare from another can differ by a very large amount. When you price a card, match both the set and the card number first.
This guide covers four recent printings: the special illustration rare 199/165 and the regular holo 6/165 from Scarlet & Violet 151, the shiny 234/91 from Paldean Fates, and the special illustration rare 223/197 from Obsidian Flames. Prices are live snapshots from trackers and change often.
Ungraded prices by printing
An ungraded card, often called raw, is one that has not been sent to a grading company. Raw prices apply to cards in the condition a buyer can inspect, usually near mint for the listed number.

Two sites are shown for each printing, and they do not agree exactly. Pokemon Wizard reads TCGplayer market data, and PokePrices draws on recent sold listings. A different method gives a different number, and neither is wrong. For the 199/165, the two figures are $325.88 and $320.
The gap between printings is the main point. The regular holo 6/165 sits at $7.83 to $8.98, while the special illustration rare 199/165 costs far more. Rarity and artwork drive that difference, since special illustration rares are harder to pull and collectors prize the art.
PSA 10 prices by printing
A graded card has been authenticated and scored by a company such as PSA. A PSA 10 is the top grade on PSA's scale. Graded and raw cards trade in separate markets, so a raw price tells you little about a graded one and the reverse.

For the 199/165, PokePrices shows $1,400 and Dittobase shows $1,399, based on eBay data with the update date shown on the page. The PSA 10 premium over raw is large on every printing in the table. The Obsidian Flames 223/197 is a good example: its raw price is under the Paldean Fates card, but its PSA 10 prices are close to it.
Graded prices depend on how many copies exist at each grade, and on whether a given card is hard to grade well. That is a general pattern, and this page does not measure it for any printing.
Picking the right card
Look at the card, not only the name. The printed card number, such as 199/165, tells you which version you have. The set symbol and rarity mark help too. Special illustration rares have full card artwork that extends beyond the frame. Regular holos use the standard layout.
Typing the set name and card number into a tracker returns the right listing far more often than searching the name alone.
What affects the price
Several things move a Charizard ex price.
- Rarity. Special illustration rares usually cost more than regular holos from the same set.
- Condition. Raw prices assume near mint. Scratches, whitening, or bent corners lower what a buyer will pay.
- Grade. A grade of 10 commands a large premium, and lower grades sell for less.
- Demand. Interest in the set and in Charizard shifts over time.
Are these cards an investment?
Some collectors treat cards as a store of value, and prices have moved a lot. They can also fall, and past prices do not predict future ones. If you are buying for the enjoyment of the card, the price you pay matters less than if you hope to resell. This page does not give investment advice. Buying and selling tips
Compare at least two trackers before you pay. For graded cards, check the grader's certificate number on the company's site. Avoid listings with stock photos instead of the actual card. For raw cards, ask for clear photos of the front, back, and corners.
