Charizard Vmax Price Guide: Current Values & Sales

Charizard VMAX is a card type from the Sword & Shield era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. VMAX cards are the large, enlarged versions of V cards, and Charizard received several of them across sets between 2020 and 2021. Because they come from different sets with different rarities, there is no one price for the name. The card number and set decide it.

Three printings are covered here: the Shiny Vault card SV107 from Shining Fates, the secret rare 74/73 from Champion's Path, and the 20/189 from Darkness Ablaze. All figures are live tracker snapshots and move with the market.

• SV107, Shining Fates Shiny Vault. A shiny version of Charizard in a special subset of the set.
• 74/73, Champion's Path. A secret rare, meaning its number is higher than the printed set size.
• 20/189, Darkness Ablaze. The standard holo from the main set.

Check the number printed on the card before you compare prices. Tracker searches by name alone often return the wrong version.

Raw means the card has not been graded. Sellers describe condition in words such as near mint, and buyers should expect that to be the condition behind a tracker's number.

The two sites do not match exactly. For the SV107, Pokemon Wizard shows $115.32 and PokePrices shows $110.90. For the Champion's Path card, the gap is larger, at $202.68 versus $155. That difference may come from how each site samples sales. One uses TCGplayer data and the other recent sold listings, so the same card can land on a different number.

The Darkness Ablaze card is far cheaper than the other two, at $38.80 to $35.31. It comes from the main set rather than a special subset.

A PSA 10 is a card that a grading company scored at the top of its scale. Graded cards sell in a different market from raw cards, so the two sets of prices should not be mixed.

The graded figures for each card are close across the two sources. The SV107 sits at $238.74 to $244, the Champion's Path card at $289.95 to $285, and the Darkness Ablaze card at $139.81 to $138.

On each printing, the PSA 10 costs more than the raw card. The size of that premium differs. It is much smaller on the SV107 than on the Darkness Ablaze card, where the PSA 10 costs several times the raw price. Grade premiums depend on how often a card reaches the top grade, a pattern this page does not measure.

• Subset or main set. Shiny Vault and secret rare cards usually cost more than a main set holo.
• Condition. Surface scratches and edge wear lower raw prices.
• Grade. A top grade carries a premium, and lower grades sell for less.
• Demand. Interest in Charizard cards shifts over time.

If you want a card to display or play with, a raw copy usually costs less. If you want a certified condition, a graded copy gives you a number from a third party. Check the grader's certificate on its website before you buy, and compare the label details with the card in the photo.

Some people buy cards hoping prices will rise. Prices can fall as well as rise, and past performance does not predict what comes next. This page offers pricing information and not investment advice. Talk to a licensed financial adviser before making financial decisions about collectibles.
