Patreon Take Price: Plans, Monthly Cost & Price History
Platform fee
10%
Patreon takes 10% of creator earnings on its standard plan for new creators, according to Patreon. Payment processing and other charges are on top.
Patreon does not charge a monthly fee to run a page. It earns money by taking a share of what creators earn, so the cost grows with your income. The headline percentage is only part of the picture, because payment processing, currency conversion and payout charges are separate.
The platform fee comes from Patreon. The processing and total-cost figures come from Ruzuku, which says it checked Patreon's pricing page and help center in September 2026. Fees change, so read Patreon's pricing page before you set up a page or raise your tiers.

How much does Patreon take from creators?
New creators pay 10% of their earnings on the standard plan. Patreon introduced this single plan in August 2025, and pages created after that date use it, according to SchoolMaker.
That percentage covers Patreon's platform. It does not include the payment processor's cut, which is billed separately on each charge.
Legacy plans for earlier creators
Creators who joined before the change kept the plan they were on, according to SchoolMaker.
Legacy platform fees (creators before Aug 4, 2025)
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Legacy Lite plan platform fee | 5% |
| Legacy Pro plan platform fee | 8% |

The Lite plan took 5% and the Pro plan took 8%. Whether a legacy page keeps its rate depends on Patreon's rules, so check your own account settings. Some sources report other legacy rates as well, and they do not all agree.
Payment processing and other fees
On top of the platform fee, Ruzuku reports payment processing of 2.9% plus $0.30 on each charge. Because the fixed part is the same on every charge, it takes a bigger share of small pledges than large ones.
Currency conversion is a separate charge. Built by Foundry lists a conversion fee of 2.5% when a patron pays in a currency other than the creator's. Other charges, such as payout fees and app store charges for pledges made inside iOS apps, vary, so look at Patreon's help pages for your payout method and country.
What does Patreon take in total?
Adding the platform fee and processing together gives a larger number than the headline. For the lower- and mid-priced tiers it modeled, Ruzuku puts the combined take at 14.1% – 15.9% of gross revenue. The share is higher on cheaper tiers.
This estimate leaves out currency conversion and any app-store charges. It also assumes a US card payment and a US payout.
Example: how the math works
Suppose a creator earns a set amount from a number of patrons at the same tier price. Patreon takes the platform percentage of that total. The processor then takes its percentage and a fixed amount on each charge, so the creator gets what is left. Multiply the number of patrons by the fixed charge to see how much goes to processing before the percentage, then subtract everything from your gross. A spreadsheet or Patreon's own earnings view makes it easy to test a few tier prices.
What patrons see versus what creators receive
Patrons see the price you set for a tier, and taxes may be added on top depending on where they live. Your payout is that price minus the platform fee, the processing charges and any conversion or payout fees. Because deductions come out of every pledge, a creator who sets a price should work backward from the amount they want to receive. Patreon's creator dashboard shows earnings, so you can compare what you expected with what arrived and spot which charges are the largest.
Ways to reduce what you pay
- Price tiers so the fixed charge is a smaller share of each payment.
- Offer annual memberships where Patreon allows them, which reduces the number of charges.
- Choose a payout method with lower charges for your country.
- Compare Patreon with other membership platforms before you commit, since each prices fees differently.
